Knights & Mermaids
Knights -With so many classic fairytales featuring princess and knights this lovely set of endearing yet characterful knights are sure to be a hit for boys and girls. If you’re looking for a special story that deals with real issues like bedtime fears then Knight Time could be just the ticket. With little hands able to move the knights into so many positions its easy to introduce their strengths and worries and help the knight conquer its fears. These fab knights are definitely not just for boys. For more knightly fun try Knight School, Tomie de Paola’s The Knight and the Dragon or Usborne’s In the Castle book.
Mermaids - You can rely on Julia Donaldson to bring us quality children’s fiction and this is definitely true of The Singing Mermaid, whose rhyming text will pair beautifully with the jaunty mermaids as they dance with the words and sea. With mermaids often seen as a girl’s domain it’s great to know that Cerrie Burnell has explored issues of race and disability in her book Mermaid, told from the perspective of a young boy. The Messy Mermaid will appeal to boys and girls (not to mention several early years practitioners!) featuring as it does a child whose OCD parents struggle with mess. Then of course there’s always the wealth of classic mermaid stories that little princesses will love to bring to life with a gorgeous wooden mermaid.
