Toolkit
Although the most important ingredient of Special Time is the therapist not the toys (Landreth, 2012), the nature of the toolkit offered effectively encourages or discourages particular types of play, signalling much to a child about the person behind the therapist. Howard and McInnes (2013) recognise that ‘a safe therapeutic environment is created by providing children with carefully selected toys’ and here are a selection of real-life, aggressive-release and creative expressive items.
